'One Year Closer To Death'

Shot by Harry Cooke & styled by Katie Madin One Year Closer To Death is an ode to retro birthday parties. After sifting through vintage photos of birthday parties from the '50s-'80s, looking especially at the obscenity of the clothing & environments Katie & Harry decided to recreate a series of different scenarios that would involve awkward birthday parties.

"The idea of ageing terrifies me, so I don’t really look forward to birthdays at all. It kind of just marks you being another year closer to your expiry date in this age
when we’re so unhealthily obsessed with youth".

Materializing from a Pinterest wormhole, Stylist Katie talks about how she began her creative process for the shoot & how much everything evolves & changes from an original idea to the final product. The overall aim was to make the 'characters' of the editorial feel natural which was achieved through makeup, styling, set design, lighting & casting. When asked to describe the shoot in three words Katie said "playful, layered & a narrative".

Described as a slightly drunk Alice in Wonderland & a Dystopian future with major Big Brother vibes, overall the shoot achieved what was promised & it's easy to see the inspirations behind what the team wanted to create.
